Introduction

Langtang Gosainkunda Trek

Langtang Gosainkunda Trek takes you to the remote and spectacular valley of Langtang as well as holy high mountain lake of Gosainkunda at an altitude of 4600m. This trek offers opportunity to explore the Himalayan passes, magnificent views of Mt.Langtang Lirung, pristine valley, diverse wildlife, majestic waterfalls and diverse ethno-culture. Both Hindus and Buddhists make the pilgrimage to bathe in Gosaikunda during festival of Janai Purnima.

Langtang Gosaikunda begins after you board a bus from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, starting point of trek, via Trishuli Bazaar. Syabrubesi is a Sherpa village located at the edge of the Langtang National Park. We cross Trishuli river many times and ascend through forest of pines, rhododendron and even cross glacial moraine on our way to the Tamang village of Langtang. We go uphill towards Kyangjing Gompa where we can observe the spiritual life of Buddhist monks in monastery. If we can trek to Cherko Ri we can enjoy the breathtaking view of mountain all around including Langtang Lirung, Gangchenpo and others. We can also visit local cheese factory. Langtang region also offers a wide variety of wildlife including the rare elusive red panda. We retrace back to Lama hotel. Now we take a new trail up and down the forest to Thulo Syabru and then to Sing Gompa where we can test fresh cheese from local cheese factory. We can visit some old monasteries. After a steep walk with dramatic view of valley and mountain, passing high pasture of Laurebina we reach the holy lakes of Gosaikunda. There are 108 lakes in Gosaikunda Basin. After a day exploring Gosaikunda we descend to Sing Gompa, down all the way to Dhunche and head back to Kathmandu.

Langtang Gosaikunda Trekking is one of the best combination of natural beauty and cultural riches that is praised by both experienced and beginner trekkers. The best season is spring season(March to May).

Detailed Itinerary

  • Day : 1 ARRIVAL IN KATHMANDU

    Your wonderful journey to the amazing Himalayas starts from your flight to Kathmandu. Onto your arrival our company representatives from Leaf Holidays will greet you at the Tribhuwan International Airport and escort you to the hotel for check-in and stay overnight. You will have a rest at the hotel. Overnight at Hotel.

  • Day : 2 Sightseeing of Kathmandu and Bhaktapur city

    You start a guided tour to four of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu. Kathmandu Durbar Square holds the palaces of the medieval Kings who ruled over the Kathmandu Kingdom. Pashupatinath houses a sacred Lingum, or the phallic symbol of Lord Shiva. The Aryaghat alongside Pashupati and on the banks of the Bagmati River is a famous funeral site for the Hindus. The Buddhists shrine of Boudhanath is one of the largest stupas in the world, and one of the holiest Buddhist pilgrimage and tourist destinations in Kathmandu. The area of Boudhnath is also famous for over 50 Tibetan Gompas or monasteries. Swayambhu meaning the "the self-existent" is popular among the foreigners as the Monkey Temple owing to the large number of monkey population residing in the area. Bhaktapur Durbar square and Patan Durbar Square are also listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Bhakatpur is an irresistible city with an authentic local lifestyle preserved over centuries of isolation from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. While in the city square, you get to admire the Nyata-Pola Temple, the Golden Gate, water spouts and the 55 Window Palace which merge together to provide an ambience of a magical outdoor theater to its visitors.   • Day : 3 Drive to Syabru Bensi by Public bus/Private Vehicle(1462m) 9 Hours

    After an early morning breakfast we drive on our way to Syabru Bensi via Trishuli. We will have a lunch at Trishuli. After we reach to Syabru Bensi we will rest at hotel and get ready for the trekking tomorrow.

  • Day : 4 Trek to Lama Hotel(2500m) 6 hours.

    After having morning breakfast at Syabru Bensi we begin our hike to Lama hotel. On the way we can catch a mesmerizing view at the places. We pass through the dense forests with a spectacular views of mountains on the way to Lama hotel. We descend from Thulo Syabru to Pahiro where we will have a lunch. After that we ascend and reach at Lama hotel. Overnight a Lama Hotel.

  • Day : 5 Trek to Langtang valley( 3307m) 6 hours.

    After having morning breakfast we begin our trek to Langtang valley. On the way we see the mesmerizing rivers and rivulets, a pure nature with a pure astounding beauty of the mountains as well as the ways. Onto the reach of Ghodatabela we will have a lunch there. The place is popular for horses as we can see the beautiful horses in Ghodatabela. After that we begin our trek again. We will reach Langtang valley after 2 hours of walk from Ghodatabela. Overnight at Langtang.

  • Day : 6 Trek to Kyanjin Gompa(3798 meters) 5 hours.

    After having morning breakfast we begin our way to Kyanjin Gompa. We can have a beautiful view of mountains like Langtang RI 1, Langtang RI 2, Langtang Summit, Dorje Lakpa, Gyansakan, Helambu etc. We can catch a mesmerizing view on the way where we can see colourful trees on the way as its filled with greenary as well as like a rainbow. After walking for 5 hours we will reach Kyanjin. Overnight at Kyanjin Gompa.

  • Day : 7 Kyangjuma Gompa Exploration and climb Kyanjin Ri

    Kyanjin Gompa is a beautiful place with a mesmerizing view of mountains upfront. We can watch the shining mountains infront of our eyes. We can have a beautiful view of Langtang Lirung, Langtang Summit, Dorje Lakpa, Naya Khang and many other mountains. If you want to have a panoramic view of mountains with a sunrise then we walk early to Kyanjin Ri for 2 hours then after that we can have a mesmerizing view of mountains uptop from the Kyanjin Ri which is the valley uptop from Kyanjin Gompa. Then we descend to Kyanjin Gompa and spend our day over there resting. Overnight at Kyanjin Gompa.

  • Day : 8 Trek return back to Lama Hotel (2500 meters) 5.30 hours.

    After having breakfast we return to Lama hotel today following the same track we came before. We will have lunch at Ghodetabela. Then we reach at Lamahotel. Overnight at Lama hotel.

  • Day : 9 Trek to Thulo Syabru (2250 Meters) 6 hours.

    From Lama hotel we descend whole way to Pahiro. We will have a lunch at Pahiro then we ascend towards Thulo Syabru. We will walk through dense forest this day and ascend the whole way to Thulo Syabru. Overnight at Thulo Syabru.

  • Day : 10 Trek to Singompa (3250 Meters) 6 hours.

    The trail from Thulo Syabru to Foprang Danda (3200m.) follows steep path passing through Dursagang (2660m.) along with the view of Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, Tibetan Mountain and oak, Hemlock, firs forests. Now, the path gently ascends for some distance and then follows flat level to Sing Gompa. There are a well-managed local cheese factory and a Buddhist Monastery. If time permits, you can relax at the place which is recommended for having excursion in and around Sing Gompa. It provides panoramic views, exhilarating nature and a walk in and around Yak Cheese factory. The cheese manufactured here is considered the best in Nepal. Overnight at hotel.

  • Day : 11 Trek to Gosaikunda (4300 Meters) 6 hours.

    The first part of the trail emerges gently ascent up to Lauribinayak. Then, the trail steeply ascends all the way to Gosaikunda. You follow a rugged trail with dramatic views; to the west Himal Chuli (7893m) Manaslu range (8156mm), Ganesh Himal range (7406m), Tibetan peaks and Langtang Lirung. On a clear day, even the Annapurna range can be seen rising up behind and to the north across the valley is Langtang Lirung. You pass a few huts in the high pasture of Laurebinayak, cross a small ridge and have your first views of the holy lakes. There are about a dozen lakes in the Gosainkunda Basin, the main three being Saraswatikunda, Bhairabkunda, and Gosainkunda. According to legend, Gosainkunda was created by Shiva when he pierced a glacier with his trident to obtain water to quench his thirst after having swallowed a poison that threatened to destroy the world.   • Day : 12 Trek to Ghopte (3430m) through Laurebina Yak pass (4610 M) 7 hours.

    Today is a bit challenge day; the trail is climb, rough and crosses moraines. Passing three more small lakes, the trail ascend and cross Laurebina La (4,609m) after the pass, the path down to Phedi and you continue walk up and down throughout crossing a rocky hill with pine, rhododendron trees. Overnight in Ghopte. Overnight at lodge.

  • Day : 13 Trek to Kutumsang (2440 Meters) 6 hours.

    Today we trek to Kutumsang early morning after having breakfast. We walk through Ghopte passing hills and many other beautiful scenery. After 6 hours of walking we reach to Kutumsang.

  • Day : 14 Trek to Chisopani (2110 Meters) 6 hours.

    Now we begin our trek to Chisopani early in the morning. We begin our walk through steepy hills and descend less through Chisapani. Overnight at Chisapani.

  • Day : 15 Chisopani to Kathmandu.

    We hike early in the morning from Chisapani to Sundarijal. Then we drive to Kathmandu. You can have a souvineir shopping to your friends in Thamel. We will organize a farewell dinner to the group in the evening. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

  • Day : 16 Transfer to the airport for the final departure

    Nearly 2 hours before your scheduled flight, our company representative will take you to the airport. We are sure; you will back to your home taking amazing experience of Nepal. We hope you enjoyed trekking and want to be somewhere in the Himalayas again.
