Mera Peak at (6,461 m/ 21,190 ft) is an awesome, beautiful mountain with all the challenges of real adventure; this peak has turned itself into one of the most sought after peaks for die-hard climbers & is one of the highest trekking peaks in Nepal within the Khumbu (Everest) Valley. This is a culturally stimulating climbing hike through remote charming villages and forests. Physically based at the edge of the celebrated Khumbu region, its summit panorama takes in five of the world’s 8000 m peaks – Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Lhotse, Cho Oyu and many other famous peaks.
Our climb begins after a scintillating flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Although physically very arduous due to the altitude, the climbing on Mera Peak is not technically complicated, ascending snow slopes that rarely exceed 30 degrees. From Lukla the trail leads us to Chutang and across the rolling foothills of the Hinku valley we reach Thuli Kharka via Zwatra la, then to Kothe, Thaknak and Khare. As we plod down the trails, we pass through forest of silver fir, birch, pines and crests dotted with colorful rhododendron. After a day of acclimatization at Khare, we move up along a rocky trail towards Mera Base Camp where we achieve submitting Mera Peak. From the summit we are enthralled by the magnificent views of the mighty Himalayas – Mt. Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Nuptse, and many others which leave heart warming memories etched in our lives for a long time to come. After a superb journey we retrace our steps back to Kothe via Khare and then to Thuli Kharka and finally back to Lukla. For our tea breaks, we find tea houses all the way to base camp. The famous ethnic Sherpa welcome you warmly hereabouts…trek this peak & write yourself down in the history of Nepal’s famous trekking peaks for all time to come…
